MBBS in Kazakhstan for Indian students.

01

“MBBS in Kazakhstan” is a familiar Indian search term, but the actual programme and award need closer attention. The Indian Embassy describes Kazakhstan’s six-year Continuous Integrated Medical Education (CIME) route as Bachelor + Master + Internship, leading to a Master of Medicine qualification. Its addendum also refers to mandatory residency in the named specialties. [3]

Astana Medical University’s published Medicine programme lists a six-year study period and Master degree. Neither the duration nor the award alone establishes that an Indian applicant has completed every foreign internship, local licensing or Indian registration requirement. [9] [11]

At a glanceWhat matters for your decision
DurationA six-year CIME programme is not automatically a six-year total route to unrestricted practice. Confirm any additional residency/licensing requirements.
EntryQualifying NEET for the applicable Indian/OCI route is separate from university academic, English-certificate and interview requirements.
LanguageGet course-wide English teaching/assessment evidence. Prepare for Kazakh or Russian patient communication in the actual clinical setting.
FeesTwo reviewed 2026–27 references show KZT 3,000,000 in the relevant English/foreign category. Future years and non-tuition costs need separate confirmation.
AdmissionsDo not assume every university has both September and February intakes or that an undated calendar establishes an open seat today.

Compare clinical learning

Ask about patient access, supervision, case records and assessment—not only simulator photographs.

Prepare for daily life

Check vegetarian/Indian food options, accommodation, transport, winter clothing and local-language support.

Budget for the whole pathway

Tuition is only one part. Allow for living, travel, formalities and any additional professional training.

Important: the Embassy’s CIME list records host-country licensing information. It is not an NMC-approved foreign-college list, and it does not certify every programme or individual student’s eligibility.

02

Explore three university profiles and use the official sources to check your intended programme. All three institutions appear in the Embassy’s CIME list reported as of 11 December 2025; this is not a new blanket NMC endorsement or a live accreditation check. [3] [16]

A common identity mistake

KazNMU ≠ al-Farabi KazNU

They are different institutions in Almaty. Match the full university name, medical programme and official contact to your offer and payment documents.

Evidence, not rankings

Compare the actual programme

A broad university ranking or a directory entry cannot replace English-medium, clinical, internship and local-registration evidence for your course.

  • Confirm the exact institution, programme code, campus and award on every document.
  • Get written evidence of teaching/assessment language, clinical access and the foreign internship arrangement.
  • Clarify the full local professional route, including any required residency, assessment or registration for foreign nationals.
  • Compare recent institute-specific screening-test outcomes with exam year and candidate numbers; no pass rate guarantees your result.
  • Verify representative authority and payment recipients directly through official university channels.
Verify profile information: use current official documents to confirm university and programme details. Older profile descriptions and photographs may be outdated; they are not proof of current facilities, admission rules or accreditation.

Distinguish NEET, interview scores and language thresholds

Eligibility, NEET & admission cutoffs.

03

Admission is not simply “50% PCB plus an offer.” Check Indian eligibility conditions, university selection rules and programme suitability separately. A school-percentage figure alone is not a universal admission or licensing guarantee.

CheckPublished requirement or next action
Indian NEET requirement [10]Covered Indian/OCI applicants must qualify NEET, subject to underlying Indian conditions. NMC gives the qualifying result three-year validity from declaration for the relevant foreign-study purpose.
School qualification and ageVerify the current Indian subject/grade/category/age conditions and the university’s accepted school qualification. Do not assume Indian reserved-category concessions automatically apply to a foreign university.
KazNMU interview cutoff [1]The 2026–27 document specifies at least 60% of the maximum interview score, followed by competitive selection. This is not a Class XII PCB percentage or NEET cutoff.
Astana interview and psychometric process [4] [5]The interview covers language, Biology/Chemistry, motivation and communication; the stages document includes online psychometric testing. Confirm all requirements for your intake.
Course-wide English mediumAn entry-level language certificate does not prove that all clinical teaching, assessment and internship training meet the applicable English-medium requirement.

English certificates: what the reviewed rules list

KazNMU’s 2026–27 document and Astana’s linked foreign-admission rules list the following minimums for their relevant English-language route. Submit an accepted certificate and reconfirm current validity/acceptance requirements with the institution. [1] [4]

CertificatePublished minimum
IELTS Academic5.0
TOEFL iBT35
TOEFL ITP417
TOEIC550
Duolingo English Test80
No universal “IELTS not required” promise: an alternative accepted certificate is different from having no English-proficiency requirement. NEET qualification and a minimum interview/language score do not reserve a seat or certify NMC compliance.

1 · Verify the programme and professional routeObtain the exact award, medium, clinical/internship plan and local licensing/residency pathway before committing.
2 · Confirm the official application channelKazNMU’s current procedure uses cooperating companies listed by the university. Independently verify authority, responsibilities and fees; do not assume every agent is authorised.
3 · Submit accepted academic and identity recordsFollow the current school-record, passport, translation/apostille/recognition, NEET and English-certificate requirements.
4 · Complete interview and other assessmentsFollow programme-specific interviews, psychometric testing where required, competitive selection and appeals procedures.
5 · Check admission records and financial termsVerify admission/interview letters, the enrollment order, tuition and service contracts, refund rules and authorised payment details.
6 · Obtain study-visa support and plan arrivalFollow the university/consular process, then report arrival and residence details promptly. Keep original documents, copies, receipts and insurance accessible.

Verify the letter: KazNMU’s 2026–27 procedure describes checking its electronic interview-admission letter through its official portal using the letter’s unique code. Reach that portal through the university’s official instructions rather than a look-alike link. [1]

No “100% visa approval”: admission, payment and university invitation support do not guarantee a consular decision. No counselor, college or calculator on this page can guarantee a visa, admission or registration.

Build a six-year—or custom-period—budget

All monetary cost fields use one selected currency. Start with Astana’s 2026–27 foreign English Medicine first-year reference, then edit the tuition basis, years, increases, living costs and INR conversion rate.

Tuition subtotal for entered periodKZT 18,000,000
Living + other costs before reserveKZT 11,800,000
Estimated total with contingencyKZT 32,780,000
Illustrative INR equivalent₹59,00,400

Starting tuition uses Astana’s 2026–27 KZT 3,000,000 foreign English Medicine first-year reference. Repeating it for six years at 0% increase is an assumption, not a contract. KZT 150,000/month housing + living, KZT 1,000,000 other costs, 10% reserve and ₹0.18/KZT are illustrative—not current quotes or live FX. This is a six-year study illustration, not the full route to a licence: required residency, extra training and the later Indian pathway are not automatically included.

Calculation: annual-basis tuition = sum of starting tuition × (1 + annual increase) raised to year 0, 1, …; full-period tuition = your entered total once. Add months × monthly living + other costs, then the reserve, then convert to INR. Changing tuition years resets living months to 12 × years; edit months afterwards if needed. Currency changes clear financial amounts and the old conversion rate. Changing tuition basis clears the tuition amount to prevent double-counting. No live rates, loan interest, salary, scholarship, stipend or unentered costs are assumed.

Different fees in later years or residency? Add the confirmed tuition amounts and choose full-period tuition rather than extending the same Medicine fee across a different programme. Adjust living months and other costs separately.

Kazakhstan medical syllabus, duration & training.

06

The reviewed Astana Medical University Medicine programme 6B10123 provides a concrete syllabus reference. It lists six years and a Master degree, with biomedical, clinical, communication and research components. The groups below summarise learning areas—not a universal curriculum for every university or a fixed subject split by year. [9]

Biomedical science and clinical reasoning

Illustrative subject grouping from Astana’s Medicine programme—not a national year-by-year timetable.

  • Morphology and physiology, biochemistry, molecular biology/genetics, medical microbiology and general pathology support the scientific foundation.
  • Evidence-based medicine, clinical epidemiology, bioethics and biostatistics develop reasoning and research skills.

Clinical disciplines and patient communication

Ask for your exact course timetable, hospital placements and assessment plan.

  • The programme includes clinical examination, internal/pediatric disease foundations, surgical diseases, radiology, psychiatry and related medical disciplines.
  • Verify supervised patient contact, case documentation, simulation, teamwork and communication in the actual local setting.

Integrated practice and internship evidence

CIME includes practical components; the actual internship arrangement must still be documented.

  • Get the exact duration, location, supervising institution, attendance and certification for the foreign internship.
  • Do not treat short placements, a six-year label or an agent’s “5 + 1” description as sufficient evidence of every NMC condition.

Award, residency and professional entry

The end of the degree is not automatically the end of the training/licensing pathway.

  • Astana’s programme lists a six-year study period and a Master degree; the Embassy CIME addendum also refers to mandatory residency in the named specialties.
  • Clarify your full local professional route, foreign-national rights and additional years/costs in writing, then assess the distinct Indian pathway.
Cohort matters: older Kazakhstan pathways and the integrated model are not interchangeable. The Embassy’s historical education page distinguishes earlier five-year study plus subsequent internship arrangements from integrated education introduced from 2023. Verify the route applicable to your admission year. [18]

Separate host-country status from Indian registration

CIME, NMC requirements & the licensing pathway.

07
Authority / claimWhat it establishes—and what it does not
Embassy CIME list [3]Reports host-country licensed institutions, with the displayed list dated 11 December 2025. It does not certify your exact English programme, internship arrangement or Indian registration eligibility.
National Medical Commission [10]NMC does not endorse a list of foreign medical universities. A country, college name or admission offer cannot replace the applicable individual/course conditions.
WDOMS, WHO and accreditation labels [14]WDOMS listing alone is not recognition, accreditation or endorsement. WHO/UNESCO/FAIMER wording in a brochure is not a worldwide practice licence.
Kazakhstan professional entryClarify the actual degree, internship, residency, assessment and registration route for foreign nationals. Academic permission to study is not the whole local-practice question.
Indian assessment and registration [13]Follow the current examination bulletin, applicable internship and registration process. Passing an exam does not cure every course-compliance defect.

Verify the actual foreign course and internship.

For the applicable FMGL 2021 cohort, requirements include at least 54 months of medical education plus a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution, English instruction, required subjects, and the host-country registration/licensing condition at par with citizens. Same-institution/country and completion-time conditions also apply. [11]

The later Indian route includes the prescribed examination, at least 12 months of supervised internship in India for the applicable cohort, and the required registration process. Do not assume the foreign and Indian internship requirements replace each other. [11]

Get the residency answer before paying: the Embassy’s CIME description expressly mentions mandatory residency in Medicine, Paediatrics and Dentistry. Obtain authoritative written clarification for your exact programme and intended practice rights; do not assume six years automatically settles the local-licence condition. [3]

NBEMS continues to publish FMGE information at review; no universal replacement by NExT or future examination prediction is made. Earlier cohorts, transfers and disrupted/online study need individual review, and the June 2026 NMC FAQ is not a blanket waiver for new applicants. [12] [13]

Build a funding plan without unconfirmed awards or earnings

Scholarships, education loans & study funding.

08

Ask the university for the specific scholarship or fee-discount scheme, not a generic promise that international students receive funding. Verify nationality, medical programme, intake, selection, coverage period, renewal conditions and any payment required before consideration.

Check the scheme and audience

An exchange award, mobility grant or postgraduate scholarship is not automatically funding for an Indian student’s first medical degree.

Check the remaining costs

Tuition support may exclude hostel, meals, insurance, travel, later years or additional residency. Use the actual award letter.

Check the financing terms

For loans, compare eligibility, security, margin, interest, currency conversion, disbursement and repayment—not just the sanctioned headline amount.

Do not rely on part-time work: the Embassy’s student advisory states, in its early-2026 guidance, that foreign student-visa holders cannot work even part-time. Verify any current legal exception with the competent authority; do not build the study budget around assumed earnings. [7]

No current scholarship entitlement, guaranteed loan approval, salary or investment return is asserted. The budget tool does not subtract an unconfirmed award or future work income.

Prepare more than a six-item checklist

Documents for Kazakhstan medical admission.

09
Document groupWhat to establish
School and academic recordsClass X/XII or accepted equivalent certificates and marksheets/transcripts; verify subject requirements, apostille/legalisation and recognised qualification procedure.
Indian requirementsNEET qualification certificate, result date and underlying academic/age/category eligibility evidence as applicable.
Identity and translationsValid passport, consistent name/date details, photographs to the actual specification and accepted notarised Kazakh/Russian translations.
English proficiencyThe current university-accepted English certificate. Keep it distinct from the written course-wide medium statement.
Health and insuranceRequired 075/U or other specified medical examinations, vaccination records and appropriate insurance; confirm current timing and where tests must be completed.
Financial and legal recordsWritten offer/enrollment documents, solvency evidence where required, tuition/service contracts, receipts and criminal-record documentation where the university requires it.
Visa and long-term professional recordsStudy invitation, visa, arrival/residence records, curriculum, transcripts, attendance, clinical/internship evidence and host-country professional documents.

KazNMU’s 2026–27 procedure specifies at least two years of passport validity at document submission, apostilled education originals and accepted translations. It also includes a recently issued solvency certificate at the contract stage. These are university application requirements—not a universal consular passport rule. [1]

Astana’s published lists differ on some details, including photograph count. Obtain the current route-specific checklist from the admission office instead of combining every list into a universal requirement. [4] [5] [20]

A passport, school marksheets, NEET result, photographs and health records alone may not complete the current university and visa checklist. Confirm any HIV certificate and its required timing with the relevant authority.

Visa support is not visa approval

Student visa, accommodation & safety in Kazakhstan.

10

Astana’s university guidance describes a C9 study-visa route for relevant foreign applicants, including Indians, with invitation support and renewal procedures. Do not assume short-stay visa-free/tourist permission covers a multi-year medical course. Confirm the competent Kazakh consulate’s current requirements and fees. [6]

The linked AMU guide calls for arrival notification within three working days. Arrange reporting immediately through the university/accommodation provider, and confirm the current legal process for arrival, address changes, fingerprints and renewals. Do not rely on older general guidance with a different deadline. [6]

Confirm housing before travel

Get a real address, room allocation or lease, price, utility/mess terms, commute and emergency arrangements. A college offer does not reserve a hostel room.

Check safe heating and air flow

Review ventilation, maintenance, safe heating and carbon-monoxide risks. Use accommodation recommended or verified by the university; do not rely only on promotional photographs.

Pay through authorised channels

AMU explicitly directs tuition payments to the university in tenge. Verify current account instructions independently, retain receipts and do not send money to an unverified personal account.

Updated insurance reference: 25 August 2026

The Indian Embassy’s advisory describes a negotiated USD 75 per student per year insurance package, including the preventive medical examination and overall coverage up to USD 50,000. It has important sublimits—for example, inpatient and outpatient limits are lower than the overall ceiling. Confirm current availability, exclusions, participating hospitals and the actual policy before buying. [8]

Plan for support, not a blanket safety promise: keep university and Indian mission contacts, share your address with family, register with the mission and review current official advisories. For immediate local emergencies the Embassy guide lists 112, police 102 and ambulance 103. [7] [15]

Think beyond the first year—and beyond the degree

Questions worth answering before you pay

MBBS in Kazakhstan: frequently asked questions.

12
Is the qualification literally called MBBS?

Not necessarily. MBBS is a common Indian search term. The Embassy describes a six-year CIME route leading to Master of Medicine, and Astana’s reviewed Medicine programme lists a Master degree. Confirm the exact programme and award. [3] [9]

Does six years include everything needed to practise?

Do not assume so. The Embassy CIME addendum also refers to mandatory residency in the named specialties. Clarify your foreign internship, local professional-entry requirements and any additional years/costs before admission; the Indian pathway is separate. [3] [11]

Is NEET compulsory for Indian students?

Covered Indian/OCI applicants must qualify NEET, subject to underlying Indian eligibility conditions. KazNMU and Astana’s reviewed documents also ask Indian applicants for NEET evidence. [10] [1] [4]

How long is a qualifying NEET result valid for this purpose?

NMC’s foreign-study guidance states three years from declaration, subject to underlying conditions. Check the actual result date and your intended route rather than assuming any old NEET appearance is sufficient. [10]

What does KazNMU’s 60% interview cutoff mean?

Its 2026–27 admission document requires at least 60% of the maximum interview score, then competitive selection. This is not a school-PCB or NEET cutoff and does not guarantee a seat. [1]

Is IELTS required, or are alternatives available?

The reviewed KazNMU and Astana rules list IELTS Academic 5.0, TOEFL iBT 35, TOEFL ITP 417, TOEIC 550 or Duolingo 80 for their relevant English route. Confirm acceptance and validity. An alternative certificate is not a blanket waiver of English proficiency. [1] [4]

Are KazNMU and al-Farabi KazNU the same university?

No. Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University and Al-Farabi Kazakh National University are different institutions in Almaty. Match the full name, programme and payment details to official documents.

What current tuition references were verified?

KazNMU’s 2026–27 English-programme document states KZT 3,000,000 per year. Astana’s 2026–27 Medicine row lists KZT 3,000,000 for year 1 for foreign English-medium students. Future years, housing and extras need confirmation. [1] [2]

Is the budget result an all-inclusive six-year quote?

No. It combines the entered tuition basis, years, assumed increases, living months, other costs, reserve and manual exchange rate. Required residency, extra training and the later Indian pathway are not automatically included. The default ₹0.18/KZT is illustrative, not live.

Do all universities have September and February intakes?

No universal two-intake rule was verified. KazNMU directs applicants to its interview schedule; Astana’s linked undated framework needs current calendar clarification. Ask for a dated programme-specific notice and actual availability.

Does the Embassy CIME list mean NMC approval?

No. It reports Kazakhstan-authority licensing information, with the displayed list dated 11 December 2025. NMC does not endorse a foreign-college list. Your exact course, internship, local licensing and individual Indian conditions remain separate. [3] [10]

Can a college or counselor guarantee the visa?

No. University admission or invitation support cannot guarantee a consular decision. Verify the correct study-visa route, documents, current fees, arrival reporting and renewal process.

Are hostel rooms, Indian food and insurance automatically included?

No. Obtain written accommodation and meal terms and the actual insurance policy. Confirm room allocation, utilities, commute, safe heating/ventilation, hospital network and coverage sublimits before arrival.

Can I fund the course through part-time work?

Do not assume that. The Embassy’s early-2026 guidance says foreign student-visa holders cannot work even part-time. Confirm any current legal exception with the competent authority, and arrange sufficient funds independently. [7]

Can I practise in India immediately after graduation?

Not automatically. Applicable course/cohort compliance, prescribed examination, internship and registration requirements must be met. No universal replacement of FMGE by NExT or future exam prediction is asserted. [11] [13]

Does the planning checker certify eligibility?

No. It generates next checks from unverified declarations. No combination establishes admission, visa approval or medical-registration compliance. Counseling opens the existing Search My Colleges enquiry form; the relevant authorities make the decisions.

Describes a negotiated USD 75/student/year insurance package, overall coverage up to USD 50,000 with important sublimits, and preventive medical examination coverage. Current availability, policy terms, exclusions, sublimits and hospitals must be confirmed before purchase.

  9. Astana Medical University — Medicine programme 6B10123 ↗

2025 programme document lists six years and an awarded Master degree, with biomedical science, clinical subjects, communication, research and practical components. Used for the curriculum example—not to certify its internship arrangement against every NMC requirement.

  10. NMC — For Students to Study Abroad ↗

NMC does not endorse a list of foreign medical universities. Indian citizens/OCIs intending to obtain a primary medical qualification abroad from May 2018 must qualify NEET; the qualifying result is deemed the eligibility certificate subject to the underlying conditions, and is valid for three years from the result date for this purpose.

  11. NMC — Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 ↗

For the applicable cohort: minimum 54 months of medical education, 12-month internship at the same foreign institution, English instruction, required subjects, local registration/licensing condition at par with citizens, at least 12 months supervised internship in India and the mandated test. Foreign course/training/internship location and completion-time conditions also apply; earlier cohorts and notified exemptions need separate review.

  12. NMC — Foreign medical graduate FAQs, 8 June 2026 ↗

Clarifies pandemic/war-related compensatory physical training and the 18 March 2026 notice. Does not create a general new exemption. Earlier-cohort internship/registration cases require State Medical Council verification; a compensation certificate is not automatic registration.

  13. NBEMS — FMGE examination portal ↗

Official screening-test information, current bulletins and institute-wise performance reports. FMGE material is still published at review; this guide does not claim that NExT has universally replaced it or forecast the exam applicable at a future graduation date.

  14. World Directory of Medical Schools — About ↗

Explicitly states that a directory listing is not, by itself, recognition, accreditation or endorsement by WDOMS, WFME, FAIMER or its sponsors. Check the exact school/programme record and relevant regulator requirements.

  15. MEA — Travel Advisories ↗

Official travel-advisory entry point. Consult the current country/region notice and Indian mission guidance before paying or travelling. Inclusion of a destination in this guide is not a safety clearance.

  16. Original Search My Colleges Kazakhstan page ↗
  17. KazNMU — official foreign-applicant page ↗

Parent page embeds the 2026–27 admission PDF and a list of cooperating companies. Verify current representative authority here; a private consultant is not automatically an official university office.

  18. Embassy of India — education guidance, updated 22 September 2023 ↗

Historical background distinguishes older course structures and the integrated model from 2023; advises direct verification, local-language preparation, traceable payments and housing checks. Its old student counts, hostel contacts and migration timelines are not relabelled as current 2026 facts.

  19. Embassy of India — accommodation and carbon-monoxide safety ↗

Advises attention to ventilation, air circulation and inspection/maintenance of accommodation systems. Used as a safety checklist source, not as a current guarantee about any named hostel.

  20. Astana Medical University — official foreign-admissions portal ↗

Linked from the main university site. Directs applicants to rules, interviews, psychometric testing and current fees; requires tuition payment in tenge directly to the university account. Warns against fraud and distinguishes partner organisations from overseas university branches.

Editorial changes: the full original was reviewed and all three profile URLs are retained. Useful overview, eligibility, admission, cost and document themes remain. Unsupported blanket recognition, two-intake, affordability, safety and visa-guarantee claims have been replaced with source-specific guidance. Unrelated or mismatched images were not reused.

Educational planning information only—not an official eligibility, licensing, legal, immigration, financial or safety determination. No admission, scholarship, visa, job or registration is guaranteed.
