How the counselling process is organised – two quotas, one merit.
Counselling allocates seats to qualified candidates based on rank, preferences, and seat availability across India's medical and dental colleges. It runs in two main phases – All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota Counselling – alongside dedicated sessions for Deemed Universities, Private Medical Colleges, and Government Medical Colleges.

All-India Quota seats in government colleges – via MCC mcc.nic.in. 15% of total seats, centralised, merit-based.
State Quota & Private/Deemed · 85%
State authorities handle remaining 85% state quota + seats in private institutions + 100% Deemed/Central/AIIMS/JIPMER/AFMC.

Step by Step – 11 Steps
Steps to follow after results for NEET counselling – miss a deadline, cost a round.
Check NEET score and All India Rank immediately after results on NTA official website. Sets your realistic position for both AIQ and state counselling, conducted by MCC.
Explore colleges you're eligible for – rankings, course offerings, past cut-offs. Document preparation: NEET scorecard, admit card, ID card, 10th & 12th mark sheets, domicile, caste certificate (if applicable), passport photos.
Qualified NEET UG must register online on official counselling website – creating profile, entering personal & academic details, paying counselling fee. Windows are short and don't reopen once closed for a round – complete same day results & schedule announced.
After registration, select preferred medical & dental colleges & courses. Consider carefully and prioritise – once made, must be locked & submitted within given time frame. Expert mentor helps maximise chances.
Based on NEET score, preferences, seat availability, seats allocated and each round's results announced on official website – check status by logging in. Allotted seat is provisional until you act – accepting, reporting, or opting to upgrade within round's window.
Carry original documents for verification and complete admission formalities. Current session 2026: Round 3 registration Sep 22-27, result Sep 30, reporting Oct 1-9, academic Sep 8/15.
NEET UG admit card & scorecard, Class 10th & 12th mark sheets & certificates, birth certificate, category certificate if applicable, passport photos, other documents as specified by college.
After successful verification, pay admission fee to confirm seat. Fee structure varies by college & course. NEET UG counselling fees varies based on category & type – AIQ, Deemed Universities, etc. Govt ₹25k-80k/yr, Private ₹8-25L/yr, Deemed ₹15-30L/yr.
Indicate willingness for upgradation during reporting or online profile. Upgradation doesn't cost you seat you already hold – you simply move to better one if next round allots it, otherwise current allotment stays intact.
Once seat confirmed & formalities complete, join college as per academic schedule – attend orientation & start classes as guided by college.
If seats remain vacant after initial rounds, additional rounds – such as mop-up rounds or state-level counselling – are conducted to fill them. Includes stray vacancy round.
