What is the ANM Nursing course?
ANM stands for Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife; the course is also commonly called Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery. It is a two-year nursing diploma-level pathway focused on essential community care, maternal and child health, health education and primary healthcare support. It is not a medical degree or a B.Sc. Nursing qualification. [1]

Age limits: read the newer notification and the state notice together.
INC Notification 11 of 2023 removes the upper admission-age limit for ANM and the other listed nursing programmes. Older INC pages still show 35. West Bengal’s 2026 bulletin says no upper age limit, but JCECEB’s ANM 2026 notice still specifies 35 with a defined worker relaxation. [3] [6] [8]
If your route has conflicting wording, seek written clarification from the admission authority and council before paying. Do not automatically rule yourself out at 35—or assume the portal must accept your application.

West Bengal 2026 entrance pattern: a worked example
The official bulletin specifies 100 MCQs, 115 marks and 90 minutes: Life Science 50 marks, Physical Science 25, Basic English 15, Mathematics 10, General Knowledge 10 and Logical Reasoning 5. Science/Mathematics use the stated Class 10 level; other areas use the stated Class 12 level. Entrance syllabus level does not lower admission to Class 10. Category-1 and Category-2 scoring differ; read the bulletin rather than assuming one penalty for every question. [6]
Its ten-year West Bengal residence requirement runs to 31 December 2025 for this cycle, with Bengali and/or Nepali proficiency. These are West Bengal conditions, not national ones.

Plan the complete two-year cost
All amounts are in Indian rupees. Compare the published course reference with your own living, training and reserve assumptions.
Subharti reference: ₹76,000/year × 2 + ₹12,000 other one-time fee + ₹10,000 refundable caution = ₹1,74,000 displayed programme cash requirement. ₹6,000/month living, ₹15,000 additional costs and 10% reserve are illustrations, not university quotes. Confirm the current invoice and actual refund conditions.
A refundable deposit still needs cash upfront; it is not subtracted from the total or assumed to be returned automatically. Reserve is applied before adding that deposit. No scholarship, stipend, salary, loan interest or unentered fee is assumed.
What changed in the original fee examples?
The original ₹1–3.2 lakh overview, broad government/private ranges and approximate ₹72,000/year TMU figure were not retained as current quotes. The programme-specific references above replace blanket estimates. The following original names are preserved as verification items—not recommendations.

ANM syllabus, practical training & internship.
The original duplicated semester table has been replaced by a clearer year-and-training-stage structure. The reviewed amended syllabus uses 18 months of study/training plus six months of internship within two years. Your institution must supply its current approved timetable and board examination scheme. [16] [15]

- Health Promotion: nutrition, human body and hygiene, sanitation and mental health.
- Primary Health Care Nursing: infection prevention, immunisation, common health problems, first aid and referral.

Develop maternal-care and health-centre skills
- Midwifery: antenatal, intranatal, postnatal and newborn-care learning within supervised training.
- Health Centre Management: records, supplies, coordination and public-health programmes.
- Clinical and community postings, skills assessment and preparation for the internship.
Apply learning under appropriate supervision
- The reviewed amended syllabus places six months of internship within the two-year course.
- Midwifery, child health, community health and health-centre experience.
- Maintain casebooks, signed competency records and the required clinical experience.
- An online-only or attendance-free promise is not equivalent to the prescribed practical training.
Complete the board and clinical requirements
- Follow the current examining board’s theory, practical and internal assessment scheme.
- Check attendance, clinical competencies, logbooks and internship completion requirements.
- Keep authenticated records needed for examination, award and State Nursing Council registration.

Which hospital, PHC/CHC and community sites will you attend? Who supervises you, and how are competencies signed off?

Before choosing a campus, verify the exact ANM programme for the intended academic year. INC’s ANM-school guidelines require recognition from the concerned State Nursing Council for that year and describe the institutional/clinical assessment framework. [4]
1. Institution & intake
Match the legal school name, address, ANM course, sanctioned seats and academic year to official documents.
2. Training & examination
Verify the examining board, hospital/community affiliations, current syllabus, supervision and exam eligibility.
3. Registration after completion
Follow the State Nursing Registration Council’s ANM registration process and later renewal/transfer rules.
- Use the INC current institution-list entry point and review relevant withdrawal notices; obtain the state authority’s current record too. [17]
- Ask the school for the complete recognition/affiliation letters, not a cropped logo or a generic “approved university” claim.
- Check whether the offer is for ANM itself—not GNM, B.Sc. Nursing, a healthcare-assistant certificate or a different campus.
- Before paying, ask how graduates of your specific course and intake become eligible to apply for R.ANM registration.
- Keep transcripts, practical/internship records, examination results, award documents and any council enrolment evidence.

The ANM female-only condition must not be transferred blindly to every GNM or B.Sc. Nursing course. Conversely, a male-inclusive GNM rule does not make ANM open to all genders.

Scholarships & education loans

- Budget without an unawarded scholarship or a promised stipend. Hostel, books, uniforms and travel may fall outside the award.

What is the full form of ANM?
ANM means Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife. The programme is also commonly called Auxiliary Nursing and Midwifery. INC lists a two-year pathway with R.ANM registration. [1]
Can I join ANM after Class 10 alone?
Not through the standard entry requirements reviewed here: recognised 10+2 is required. Class 10 marks may appear in document or merit processes, and some entrance subjects use Class 10-level questions, but neither changes the Class 12 entry requirement. [4] [6]
Can Arts students apply for ANM?
The INC overview includes an Arts/English route as well as Science and specified Healthcare Science vocational routes. Check your state’s accepted board, subjects, English and marks rules; do not assume every stream/subject combination qualifies everywhere. [2]
Is ANM admission open to male candidates?
The reviewed INC ANM school guidelines and West Bengal/Jharkhand 2026 ANM notices are female-only. Candidates who do not meet that condition can investigate other nursing routes, such as eligible GNM/B.Sc. programmes, under their own rules. [4] [6] [8]
Is 35 still the maximum age for ANM?
INC Notification 11 of 2023 says no upper admission-age limit. West Bengal 2026 follows no upper limit, while JCECEB’s 2026 ANM notice still states 35 with a specified relaxation. If your state notice conflicts, obtain written authority clarification before applying or paying. Minimum-age rules remain. [3] [8]
Does everyone need 50% in Class 12?
No universal 50% rule is stated here. West Bengal 2026 publishes 40% aggregate with English passed and specified relaxations; TMU’s specific programme block shows 50% with English. Check the actual notice for your route.
Are NEET or CUET compulsory for ANM everywhere?
No universal NEET/CUET requirement is established. West Bengal and Jharkhand have their own ANM-related entrances; other routes may use merit or another notified selection process. Follow the exam named in your actual admission notice.
Is IGNOU’s nursing entrance an ANM entrance?
The reviewed IGNOU programme is Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing for eligible in-service RNRM nurses with GNM and experience/academic conditions. It is not a fresh ANM entrance after Class 12. [19]
Does the six-month internship make ANM two-and-a-half years?
In the reviewed amended syllabus, no: the six-month internship is within the two-year total, described as 18 months plus six months. Obtain the current examining board’s exact scheme. [16]
Can I complete ANM entirely online without clinical attendance?
Do not rely on that promise. The reviewed programme framework includes supervised clinical/community training, attendance, competencies, records and assessment. A distance certificate is not automatically equivalent to the recognised ANM qualification.
Are all 17 original college profiles verified ANM colleges?
No. Two original profiles have ANM programme-specific evidence reviewed here; eight need programme verification and seven lead to other-course profiles. Links are retained for continuity, not as recognition or intake endorsements.
Is the Subharti total ₹1,74,000 all-inclusive?
It reconciles the displayed two-year course charges, one-time charge and refundable caution deposit. It does not automatically include hostel, food, travel, equipment or every later charge. Obtain the current invoice and refund conditions. [12]
Why does the calculator include a refundable deposit?
It is still cash you must arrange upfront. The calculator adds it after the reserve on other costs and does not assume automatic recovery. Avoid adding it again if your entered whole-course amount already includes it.
Can ANM directly make me a Staff Nurse or Nursing Officer?
Not for every job. ANM’s R.ANM category differs from the RNRM category listed for GNM/Basic B.Sc. Nursing. Read the specific employer’s qualification, registration and experience rules. [1]
Can I go directly from ANM to Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing?
No automatic progression is promised. Check the receiving course’s exact eligibility. IGNOU’s reviewed route requires GNM, RNRM and specified experience/academic conditions; the INC overview separately lists a registered-ANM GNM entry route. [19] [2]
