MTech Course: Important Dates 2026, Admission Procedure, Exams, Eligibility, Top Institutes

Basic Requirement

• Students must have completed B.E. or B.Tech. in a relevant engineering discipline from a recognized university.

Minimum Percentage

• Generally, 55-60% marks in B.E./B.Tech (may vary by university/chosen specialization).

Marks Relaxation

• SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates often have a relaxation of 5% in the minimum marks percentage.

Entrance Exams

• GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is the primary entrance exam for MTech + PhD admission. Some top colleges may conduct their own exams for admission or accept scores like Karnataka PGCET, OJEE, CSIR UGC NET, etc.
• Admission is based on rank and marks obtained in the entrance test.

Sit for the relevant MTech entrance exams and score excellent marks in the exam.

Attend interviews or skill-based assessment rounds.

IIT Madras Scholarships

• Half-Time Teaching Assistantship (HTTA) at a monthly stipend of INR 12,400 (for a maximum period of 22 months) for Indian Nationals, subject to institute rules.
• GATE-qualified candidates selected under the Department of Atomic Energy – Graduate Fellowship (DAE-GF) scheme will get a fellowship of INR 35,000 per month.
• Around three students will be selected from Mechanical Engineering (only in Design/ Nuclear/ Thermal Engineering) or Chemical Engineering, or from both, and will be awarded a monthly stipend under the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board Graduate Fellowship (AERB-GF) scheme.

VIT Vellore Scholarships

• Chancellor’s Special Award (Best Outgoing Student), along with an endowment amount of INR 10,000.
• PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child
• PG Scholarship for University Rank Holders (I and II rank holders) worth INR 37,200.
• AICTE – GATE Scholarship for PG Students (MTech)

IIT Delhi Scholarships

• The Devarakonda Satyanarayana Award is given to a graduating female MTech student from the Geotechnical Engineering section of the Civil Engineering department at IIT Delhi, worth INR 25,000.
• Prof. Kasturi Lal Chopra Best MTech Thesis Award to recognize the talent whose exceptional MTech thesis is in the areas of Thin Films/ Nano-materials/ Quantum Materials/ Thin Film Solar Cells/ Thin film devices & applications. The award amount is INR 30,000.
• IIIE Cash Award is given to MTech students with the highest CGPA in the area of Industrial Engineering and Production Engineering in their final year, worth INR 25,000.

BITS Pilani Scholarships

• MTech students admitted based on the GATE exam scores are eligible to receive a scholarship of INR 12,400 every month from UGC. The Institute will apply for the GATE scholarship to UGC/MHRD.
• Further, they will receive a fee waiver from the Institute up to an amount of INR 60,500 per semester. The scholarship is provided instead of 6-8 hours of teaching assistantship work per week.
• For students admitted based on their score in the BITS HD Test or interviews conducted by BITS Pilani, they will receive a stipend of INR 13,400 per month for 6-8 hours of Teaching Assistantship work per week.

Chandigarh University Scholarships

• Scholarships based on Academic Merit (Both Graduation Percentage and CUCET Scores)
• Early Bird Scholarship (15% scholarship for CU graduates and 10% for graduates from other recognized universities who deposit the full semester fee at the time of admission.)
