MBBA Overview

MBBS full form is Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. It is a 5.5 year UG medical course which is chosen by candidates who wish to become doctors and work in healthcare field. For MBBS, NEET UG is the sole exam through which admission is done and it is one of the toughest and most competitive exams in India.

Generally, candidates should have pass Class 12 (PCB) with passing marks and NEET UG to be eligible. The fees can range around INR 25,000 to INR 25 Lakh. Popular colleges include AIIMS Delhi, CMC, KGMU, etc.  

The profession of a doctor is commonly opted by candidates after completing MBBS but this is not the only option. Candidates can also become Resident Medical Officer, Medical Writer, Researcher, Lecturer, etc.

MBBS Admission 2025 is through NEET UG conducted by NTA. It is the only exam for government, private, and deemed colleges. Candidates must register, appear, qualify the cutoff, and join counseling. MCC conducts All India Quota (AIQ) and deemed/central institute counseling; state authorities conduct state quota counseling.

Eligibility (NEET UG / MBBS):

  • Age: 17 years on or before December 31, 2025.
  • Class 12 (10+2): Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English from a recognized board.
  • Minimum marks: 50% (UR)40% (SC/ST/OBC)45% (PwD) in PCB (as per NMC).
  • Nationality: Indian; NRI/OCI/Foreign eligible as per MCC/NMC rules.

Selection Criteria:

  • NEET UG score/rank is the only selection basis.
  • Seat allotment via choice filling and round-wise counseling (Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up, Stray).
  • Reservation as per Central (AIQ) and State policies.
  • AIIMS, JIPMER, and deemed universities participate through NEET UG and MCC counseling.

After Seat Allotment:

  • Accept/upgrade as per round rules.
  • Upload/verify documentspay admission fee, and report to the college within the deadline.
  • Submit medical fitnessbond (if applicable), and complete registration with the university/state medical council.

MBBS State Counselling 2026

NEET UG 2025 counselling will be conducted from July to November 2025. Each state medical authority releases its own counselling schedule for state quota MBBS seats. For example, states like West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh generally conduct counselling in July–August after MCC’s All India Quota (AIQ) rounds.

  1. Seat Matrix Publication – Seat matrices for each state will be released before the counselling rounds begin, allowing candidates to check seat availability.

MBBS Admission 2026 Eligibility Criteria

To apply for MBBS Admission 2025 through NEET UG, candidates must fulfill the following eligibility requirements:

1. Academic Qualification

  • Candidates must have completed 10+2 (Class 12) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English as core subjects.
  • General category candidates must score a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).
  • SC/ST/OBC category candidates must score at least 40% aggregate marks in PCB.
  • PwD candidates need a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in PCB.

2. Age Limit

  • Candidates must be at least 17 years old by December 31, 2025.
  • There is no upper age limit for NEET 2025 as per the latest NMC guidelines.

3. Nationality

  • Indian citizens, OCI (Overseas Citizens of India)NRIs (Non-Resident Indians), and Foreign Nationals are eligible to apply.

4. NEET 2026 Qualification

  • Candidates must appear for and qualify NEET UG 2025 conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency).
  • The minimum percentile requirement is:
    • 50th percentile for General category
    • 40th percentile for SC/ST/OBC
    • 45th percentile for PwD candidates

MBBS Admission 2026: Selection Criteria
