Indian law Institute widely known as ILI was established in 1956. The institute was inaugurated by the first president of India Dr.Rajendra Prasad in presence of various government officials and other judges. The government of India granted the status of the deemed university to ILI in 2004. The institute offers LLM, Ph.D., postgraduate in diploma, and online certificate programs. Indian Law Institute (ILI), New Delhi offers admission to major legal programs such as LL.M. (One-Year), Ph.D. in Law, Post Graduate Diploma Courses, and Online Certificate Courses. Admissions to all these programs are based on either entrance examinations or merit, depending on the course.
For LL.M program, candidates are selected based on performance in the ILI Entrance Exam. Admission to the Ph.D. in Law program is based on UGC NET (Law) scores followed by an interview. For admission to PG Diploma courses are based on merit of the qualifying exam, and admission to Certificate Courses is through direct enrollment.

Mainly 3 types of scholarships are granted by the institute.
1)Merit scholarship
INR 30000 per annum is given to the first two students based on the merit list of the All India Admission test of one year LLM degree program.
2) Merit-cum-Means scholarship:
The institution may repay the fees of the needy and sincere students (max 5% of the intake) studying in one year LLM program. The final decision is based on the director.
3) Gold Medals to Meritorious students:
Gold medals are awarded to the students with the highest CGPA and must have cleared the exams in the first attempt and no disciplinary actions should have been taken against them. The final decision is based on the director.
Central library: Central library is one of the well-known libraries in the country. It is a part of the National Digital Library of India. It contains around 81000 volumes.190 periodicals are received there with serial publications. A facility of the digitized data about the availability of books, journals, reports, publications is provided through OPAC. It creates a well-equipped environment for visually impaired students with the help of pearl instant reader, JAWS talking software, music player, Radio cum voice recorder, etc.
Legal Information Research Centre (LIRC): The institute has established LIRC with the latest technology computers, printers and Wifi connectivity. Legal information related to case laws, legislations, constitutions, Legal articles can be received at the centre, Anti-plagiarism Software and URKUND are also available there.

ILI consists of very reputed and highly qualified faculties with degrees like P.hD and masters in law. The director head of the college prof Dr. Manoj Kumar Sinha has published many articles on international human rights, constitutional laws and various other areas in the national and international journals.
Mrs. Lotika Sarkar who was an Indian feminist and pioneer in the field of women Studies and Rights has also been a teacher at ILI.
