What is neet counselling process?

The counseling process of NEET is designed to allocate seats to qualified candidates based on their ranks, preferences and availability of seats in various medical and dental colleges across India. It is conducted in two main phases: All India Quota (AIQ) and State Quota Counseling. Additionally, there are counseling sessions for Deemed universities, Private Medical Colleges and Government Medical Colleges.

Key aspects of neet counselling

Centralized Process: NEET counseling is conducted at both the national and state levels. The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) handles the All-India Quota (AIQ) counseling for 15% of the total seats in government medical and dental colleges. State authorities manage the remaining 85% of state quota seats and seats in private institutions.
Rounds of Counseling: The counseling process typically involves multiple rounds, including the first round, second round, mop-up round, and additional state-level counseling rounds. Each round allows candidates to select and secure seats based on their preferences and merit.
Choice Filling and Locking: During the counseling process, candidates need to fill in their preferred choices of colleges and courses. Once satisfied with their selections, they lock their choices. Based on these preferences and the NEET score, seat allotments are made.
Seat Allotment: Seats are allocated based on the candidate's NEET score, category, and the choices filled. The results are published on the official counseling website, and candidates can check their allotment status by logging in.
Reporting and Admission: Candidates allotted a seat must report to the designated college for document verification and complete the admission process within the specified time frame.
If a student does not secure a seat in the first round of NEET counselling, they are still eligible to participate in the subsequent rounds, including the mop-up round, where remaining and vacant seats are filled.

Steps to Follow After Results for NEET Counselling

Check Eligibility and Rank

Check your NEET score and All India Rank (AIR) immediately after the results are declared on NTA (National Testing Agency) official website. This information is important for understanding your position in the AIQ and state counseling which is conducted by MCC (Medical Counseling Committee).

Research and Prepare
  • Know your Options: Explore the colleges you are eligible for, including their rankings, course offerings and past cutoffs.
  • Document Preparation: Collect all necessary documents, including NEET scorecard, admit card, identity card, class 10th and 12th mark sheets, domicile certificate, caste certificate (if applicable) and recent passport-sized photographs.
Registration

Candidates who have qualified for NEET UG must first register online on the official counseling website. This involves creating a profile, entering personal and academic details, and paying the required counseling fee.

Choice Filling and Locking

After registration, candidates need to select their preferred medical and dental colleges and courses from the available options. It’s important to carefully consider choices and prioritize them according to preference. Once choices are made, they must be locked and submitted within the given timeframe.

Seat Allotment

The seat allotment process is conducted in multiple rounds. Based on the candidate’s NEET score, preferences, and seat availability, seats are allocated. The results of each round are announced on the official website. Candidates can check their allotment status by logging into their accounts.

Reporting to the Allotted College

Candidates who are allotted a seat must report to the designated college within the specified time frame. During reporting, candidates need to carry original documents for verification and complete the admission formalities.

At the allotted college, candidates must undergo a document verification process. The necessary documents typically include:

  • NEET UG Admit Card and Scorecard

  • Category Certificate (if applicable)
  • Passport-sized Photographs
  • Other relevant documents as specified by the college

NEET UG Counseling FeesThe NEET UG counseling fees varies based on the category of the candidate and the type of counseling (All India Quota, Deemed Universities, etc.).

Upgradation and Second Round Counseling

Candidates who are not satisfied with their allotted seat or wish to upgrade can participate in subsequent rounds of counseling. They need to indicate their willingness for upgradation during the reporting process or in their online profile.

Joining the College

Once the seat is confirmed and all formalities are completed, candidates can join the college as per the academic schedule. It’s important to attend the orientation and start attending classes as per the college’s guidelines.

Additional Rounds
