Sikkim University is a central university located in Gangtok. Established in 2007, the university is recognised by the UGC and ranked 151 among top 2000 universities in NIRF 2023 rankings. The permanent campus of Sikkim University is built at Yangang in Namchi district, about 56 km from Gangtok.

Sikkim University offers UG, PG and PhD programs across schools of Human Science, Language and Literature and Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Professional Studies and Social Sciences. Admissions to the 65 UG, PG courses across 7 schools of study is based on the NTA’s Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The Sikkim University placement drive 2023 concluded with a median package for the UG students is INR 5.40 LPA and for the PG students, the highest median package is INR 6 LPA.

Sikkim University admissions are completely online. Candidates seeking admission to UG and PG programs must appear for the CUET UG and CUET PG examinations, respectively. Registrations for admission at Sikkim University usually start after result declaration of the CUET examination in the month of June or July. Shortlisted students based on the CUET scores will get the call letter for the Counseling session. Selected students have to present at the Institute for Medical Checkup and Document Verification on the given date. Pay the Admission fee online to secure admission 

The students have to fill out the admission form of INR 600 for General/OBC/EWS and INR 300 for ST/SC/PWD. Follow the steps given below to fill out the application form.

Sikkim University Scholarship

Sikkim University provides scholarships for students enrolled with financially weak family backgrounds. To get the scholarship, eligible students have to apply the prescribed form along with their parent’s income certificate to the office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW). Foreign students are not eligible for this scholarship.

Sikkim University provides scholarships to students who fall under the SC/ ST/ OBC/ PWD/ NER category. The students have to submit an online application through the UGC portal or a different Ministry portal. There are various scholarships under this scheme as follows:

The scholarship will be given to undergraduate First and Second Rank winners who have been accepted into any Postgraduate Course

Students who have enrolled in a conventional, full-time Master’s degree program at a recognized university, acknowledged university, private university, autonomous college, or post graduate college are eligible for the program

Application process: The National Scholarship Portal of the Government of India will only accept applications once a year.
Additionally, a brief notice will be posted on the UGC website

Amount of fellowship: Rs.3,100/- p.m for a period of two years only i.e. full duration of a PG course

No other additional grant will be payable in lieu of hostel charges and medical charges etc
The student who is awarded Postgraduate Scholarship for University Rank Holders will not be debarred from accepting any other scholarships

Maulana Azad National Fellowship

5 year fellowships in the form of financial assistance to students from six notified minority communities (viz. Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Parsi and Sikh) to pursue M. Phil and Ph.D in a recognized UGC approved university

Prior clearance of UGC-NET or Joint CSIR-UGC NET examination
Incom ceiling of the applicant’s family should be INR 6 Lakh per annum

Sikkim University Campus and Facilities

Sikkim University has an ample amount of facilities like a central library, health center, Gym and Transport facilities for students, throughout the year. 

  • Central library – fully automated and equipped with modern infrastructure and services required in a digital environment. With a website and application to access books online. Sikkim University has over 50,000 printed books and e-books in the collection. 
  • Health Centre provides Medical facilities to the students, teachers, and employees of the University and their family members. They have different services in the Health Centre such as Outpatient Clinics, Emergency facilities, Inpatient facilities, Dispensary and Emergency services
  • Gymnasium is fully equipped and open 6 days a week for students and staff. The gym has different shifts that have been maintained for male and female users. There are respective gender trainers in the gym to monitor and provide continuous supervision to the gym members. The university provides free bus service to its students at fixed intervals
  • Hostel – Sikkim University has 9 hostels: 5 for boys and 4 for girls with well-maintained infrastructure and an affordable fee. The application for accommodation at the hostel can be made online at the time of filling out the online application form and accommodation is provided based on merit, availability of seats. The students from the areas in and around Gangtok are not eligible for hostel accommodation. Students must attach a residence proof with the duly filled hostel application form.
