Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is an advanced research institute established and fully funded by the Reserve Bank of India for carrying out research on development issues from a multi-disciplinary point of view. The institute offers PhD programs in Development studies and a Master of Science program in Economics. The institute has one of the largest social science libraries in Asia. 

Admissions at IGIDR Mumbai are based on scores obtained in the entrance examination. For admission to the M.Sc Economics program, the institute accepts CUET PG scores, while PhD admissions are based on scores obtained in the entrance examination conducted by the university.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research Admission

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) offers admission to M.Sc and Ph.D programs. For admission to the M.Sc Economics program, the institute accepts CUET PG scores, while PhD admissions are based on scores obtained in the entrance examination conducted by the university.  Selected candidates will be invited for an interview and Document Verification at IGIDR. Final merit list will be based on the online Entrance Exam and Interview.

How to Apply?

  • Candidates can fill the application form online available at www.igidr.ac.in.
  • Online Application Fee – General Category: Rs. 500/- only. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/Physically Disabled/Other Backward Castes (non-creamy layer)/Economically Weaker Section: Rs.100/- only. 
  • Before registering their applications on the website, candidates should possess a valid email id. In case, the candidate does not have a valid e-mail id, he/ she will have to create a new email id before applying online.
  • Candidates are advised to verify every field filled in the application. The name of the candidate should be spelt correctly in the application as it appears in the Certificate/Mark sheets/identity proof & PAN Card.
  • The candidates short-listed after the online test will be interviewed at IGIDR in Mumbai around the second or third week of June. Second class return rail fare by the shortest route will be paid to all candidates interviewed. The first term for all programmes will commence at the end July.
  • For candidates belonging to SC/ST/PD category, the online application fee is Rs.100/- only. They are required to upload a scanned copy of the required certificate as a proof which must be issued by a competent authority.

Affectionately known as the Placecom amongst the students, this committee is in charge of managing the summer and executive placements of final year students. The Placecom strives to shape a better future for students through regular interaction and feedback about their interests in various sectors on one hand and continuously building relationships with recruiters on the other. Flawlessly coordinating the entire gamut of placements right from summer internships to pre-placement talks and executive placements is the hallmark of Placecom.

The Placement Committee, a student body at IGIDR, working in close coordination with the faculty placement Committee, provides a platform for students seeking recruitments to interact with possible recruiters on the campus. Since its inception in 2004, the placement cell has successfully maintained a 100% placement record.

The Placement Committee cordially invites corporate firms, banks, research organizations, government institutions and non-government institutions to be a part of the Placement process at IGIDR.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research Scholarships

The institute has 3 scholarships to offer under an Asian Regional Initiative. The following scholarships are not meant for the Indian Nationals.

  • IGIDR-IDRC Masters/M.Phil. Scholarships for students from Select Asian Countries – This scholarship for Asian candidates provide them a monthly fixed allowance as well book reimbursement and travel allowance amount.
  • IGIDR-IDRC Visiting Doctoral Student Scholarships for students from Select Asian Countries – This scholarship is funded by the International Development Research Center, Canada (IDRC). Those who get selected for this scholarship will receive a monthly stipend of INR 26000 and one round of travelling expenses up to a maximum amount of INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of amount INR 25000, and allowable book reimbursement and travel allowance for conference travel.
  • IGIDR-IDRC Postdoctoral Scholarships for Scholars from Select Asian Countries – Those who get selected for this fellowship will receive a monthly stipend of INR 50000, one round of travelling expenses up to a maximum amount of INR 50000, fixed medical coverage of amount INR 25000, and research grant of INR 100000, and conference travel support up to a maximum amount of INR 150000.

Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research Facilities

The architecture of the campus is inspired by the historical Elephanta and Jogeshwari caves and includes office and residential buildings for research and administrative staff, seminar rooms, auditorium, library, computer centre, cafeteria and guest house.

The students and staff of the Institute are provided accommodation on campus. The whole campus is connected through LAN and WiFi, and the institute has an Internet leased line of 150 mbps for Internet connection. The Internet service is free and available 24Ă—7 with backup ISP.

Classroom and Seminar Halls and Auditorium:The institute has four class rooms and two seminar rooms, one conference hall and one auditorium equipped with the facilities like Projector, Document Camera, Wi-Fi, Digital class and Video conferencing system. The seating capacity of the Auditorium is around 500.

Hostel and Guest House:Students are provided hostel accommodation on the campus. The institute also has a guest house with 50 rooms.

Recreation facility:Recreation facilities include Club library, table tennis, badminton court, lawn tennis, jogging track, fully equipped gymnasium, swimming pool and a children’s park within the Institute’s premises.

Computer Centre and Library:The IT facilities at IGIDR Include a state-of-the-art Computer Center and the IGIDR library is one of the leading professional research and reference libraries in the country.

The employees and students are covered under group mediclaim. A visiting doctor is also available on working days for consultation for the benefit of people residing on campus. The Institute also has subsidised canteen facilities for the students and employees.

IGIDR does not have any other study centre. The institute does not offer any distance learning programme.
