Central Institute of Fisheries Education can be called as the national leader on fisheries education in India. Established in 6th June 1961 by Government of India and established with an aim of imparting higher education and research and training opportunities to the in-service fisheries personnel of the country to support the fisheries developmental activities.

ToggleThe college offers courses under Masters and Research level for different subjects and also provides various types of training programmes ranging from 3-7 days short term programs to 6-12 months long term programs for various client groups as fishers, farmers, entrepreneurs, faculty, industry representatives, students, research scholars, etc.
Admission to both the masters and research programmes is based on the merit list prepared on the basis of the mark scored at the entrance examination conducted by the college for admission.Â
The institute has an updated version of the technologies for the field of aquaculture, breeding, feed technology, health management, genetics and processing. Their aim is to make the technological tools available to the local people who are a part of fish farmings, entrepreneurs and other developmental agencies.Â

Admission to M.V.Sc. is done through a Combined examination and then counselling on the basis of merit in the examination for the admission to 100% seats of M.F.Sc
Admission to Ph.D. is based on the merit of All India Competitive Written Examinations and followed by personal interview.

Financial support is provided to the students who are meritorious in their relevant subjects and other scholarships under government schemes are also provided to them and also to the reserved category students of SC/ST/OBC and others as well.Â
